Description
All the punk rockers and the moon stompers are out on the corners where they're sparing for change Roots Radicals-Rancid
For quite some time now, I've wanted to harness the energy and passion of raw punk-rock on to a visual medium. When I first heard The Clash at 23 years old, they instantaneously changed my fundamental perspective of music and how it can be crafted. Most importantly passed the flame of music can have a meaningful, positive social impact to a new generation that might not relate to Dylan or Marley. The authenticity of what Joe Strummer, Mick Jones & Co. created is outstanding and sounds true 30 years later.
It is a challenge to paint rock n roll and often seem daunting. Having recently been studying cubism (Pablo Picasso, George Braque and Juan Gris) the style, with its multiple plateaus and jutting shapes, clicked one day as a natural fit for the Punk-Rock theme. One piece that was of much influence is Picasso's Girl Before The Mirror (http://www.moma.org/collection/object.php?object_id=78311) I call this "Punk-Rock Cubism.
If you haven't REALLY heard punk music, its not angry or violent as frequently caricatured. Its expressive, lively, often both intelligent and progressive and can have as much soul as James Brown (minus the great dance moves) Go listen to some Rancid, Ramones, Social Distortion, Against Me!, Dropkick Murphys, Sublime, Iggy Pop, The Pixies, Television, Pearl Jam, Gaslight Anthem, Stiff Little Fingers - so much good music!
Give em the boot, You know Im a radical! The roots of reggae on my stereo!
