Color Me Happy Sunflower by Christina Rollo. The giant Sunflower is an annual plant native to America and named after its huge, fiery blooms, often used to depict the sun. To me, these colorful flowers represent happiness. They often appear to be smiling and waving as I pass them by. The sunflower has a rough, hairy stem, broad, coarsely toothed, rough leaves and circular heads of flowers. The heads consist of many individual flowers which mature into seeds. State flower of Kansas in the US.
