Description
Beaked Hazel by Christina Rollo. Beaked Hazel is a deciduous shrubby hazel found in much of North America. It thrives in dry woods and forest edges. It can grow 13 - 26 feet tall. The leaves are rounded oval, coarsely double toothed with hairy undersides.
Corylus cornuta is named for its fruit which is a nut enclosed in a husk resembling a beak. The spherical nuts are surrounded by a hard shell and are edible.
