Description
She is strong, beautiful, confident.
She is also nymph-like, a faerie, a sprite of the canyon overlooking the vista of the landscape below.
Diaphanous, the artwork, invites the viewer into the world of this mysterious woman, this woman who resembles what many of us feel like inside, but do not always have the confidence to show on the outside. Diaphanous takes us to the heights of the Grand Canyon in Arizona, USA, and says, “There! Look below you – the vista is majestic and beautiful. Stand on the rock and let your arms embrace the sky – feel the freedom that is within you, and begin to live as a person who is free.”
“But we are free,” many people say. “We live on the freest nation on earth.”
Like any saying that we hear and repeat without thinking, this latter is one to ponder and think on. Are we really free? Do we have the freedom to not go to the office? To disagree with the boss, even when she/he is obviously wrong? To point out to the officer who just stopped us that he/she is being rude? To speak our thoughts without worrying about whether they are politically correct? To not buy a car, or a certain type of clothes, because we really can’t afford them – and NOT worry about what others will think? To critique a movie or a book or a TV show or a politician that everyone else says is just brilliant?
Freedom is not just absence of physical slavery. Freedom is a mindset, a confidence, a willingness to explore one’s thoughts without the voices of society constantly interrupting and scolding us for our beliefs. Diaphanous is a visual expression of what it looks like to be free – to express joy and wonder and hope in a place of beauty and majesty.
Diaphanous is featured on 29 Fine Art America groups.

You have described just how I feel when I stand on the edge of this beautiful place. The joy and wonder I feel last for much longer than my short time observing the view. You have definitely painted an apt description of Joy! l/f
